Major Geographical Features

Port-O-Bounty is a city that populates nearly the entire Island of Nonuck, though it is seldom referred to as such. The Island has a hot tropical climate that facilitates many exotic animals and plants. The city itself is very loosly constructed and rarely paved. No rivers exist on the Island, but a few creeks and a single waterfall can be found.

  • The Deep Forest: This land is only recently being charted, though scarce. It is where much of the original lumbers were found to build the city, though the wood is inappropriate for building structures of any kind due to its moisture levels. Hadozee have a small community but have all been since civilized and now a major association with the city.
  • Ore Falls: The only waterfall on the Island, many legends surround it, and more than a few traps.
  • Main Harbor: The largest harbor, protected by a coral reef maze that is only charted by pirates and others of the like. It is a massive natural bay and houses anywhere from 1 to 5 hundred sea-vessels at a time. Most of the shops and businesses thrive near this site.
  • Western Harbor: This small harbor is concealed by the natural ascention of the island topography. It is privately owned and operated, though it is possible to purchase a slot.
  • Eastern Harbor: This run down woodwork was the original harbor, now plagued with termites and rotting wood, only the poorest choose to skip the services and fees of the main harbor to dock here. For obvious reasons, this is the least safe site to park a vessel, and much of the violence of PoB occurs here where rival street gangs attempt to rebuild the harbor, only to be destroyed by the 'government'

Life and Society

The average person at Port-O-Bounty is a fugitive from mainland law. Pirates, scallywags and other filth are commonplace here, and take comfort in the fellowship aspect. A general honor among theives can be seen, but that doesn't work as well as a gaurd force, residents are finding. Men populate the Island overwelmingly, women are found only in harems and occasionally running a 'legitamite' business. The government works by simply contracting any and every job they need done to- pirates. The streets of Port-O-Bounty are as vibrant and varied as any Maddocks Gate road, though beggers are more accepted here. The occasional child that is born into the sin that is known as Port-O-Bounty as almost always granted free passage with his or her mother out of the city into a more child friendly environment. Laws don't really exist, and if the government doesn't want a certain behavoir, it will become clear in the form of a hundred pirates attempting your execution. A prison once existed, but was since renovated into a bar. Major offenders are simply killed.

The Arts

  • Art: Smatterings of every regions valuable art can be found here. In the rich district, known as the 'Velvet Aisle', more precious art exists from every corner of the world than anywhere else. Anywhere outside of the Velvet Aisle art is quickly bartered for beer.
  • Music: Port-O-Bounty is responsible for the most contemporary and offensive music in the lands. Many styles have converged here, and new styles born. Music is the most popular art in Port-O-Bounty because bars are so common.
  • Dance: Port-O-Bounty offers no original dance, but instead, has a generally offensive blend of every cultures dances. Because anything goes and women are so rare, dancing is an affair that often results in a crime.

Summary

Port-O-Bounty is an independent pirate city on a small island in the Great Bay. This city has many purposes. The main purpose is as a haven for pirates, a safe place to hide when ships are hunting them down. Only pirates really know about Port-O-Bounty, as the knowledge of its existence doesnt pass through common knowledge. It is known on mainland Therra, however, although not by many. Since it is not very large no nation has waged war or seeked adamantly for it. Port-O-Bounty also acts as a large bazaar for trading various pirated goods. This makes Port-O-Bounty the second largest black market in Therra next to Vixxyis. There are some legitimate businesses, but they are all based around supporting the pirates that drive the city's economy. These business include taverns, inns, ration / supply vendors for sea journey's, as well as ship craftsmen and repairmen. There is a very loose government ran by a small council of 7 pirates with one leading member. These council members are practically always older and aged pirates who have passed their seafaring prime. The government charges very light property taxes on homes and businesses as well as charges to enter the city or leave a boat in their massive docking system. Actually, over 50% of Port-O-Bounty's governmental revenue comes from slot renting in their docks. The money raised from these small forms of taxation goes to just a few things: Salaries for the council members, small guard task force to prevent havok in the city (ironically, the city is fairly docile besides the many bar fights that break out). Also, Port-O-Bounty uses the cash reserve to hire pirates and other mercenary to protect Port-O-Bounty.
