Jocco
Wanderer, Fencer, Adventurer, Bard
Beast Slayer, Sailor, Pirate, Thief
Con Artist, Hero, Gambler
Overview
Jocco is a tiny sized gnome known for his panache both on the field of battle and off. He considers himself many things, but wanderer is the best description. He travels Therra and does as he pleases. One night he may be enjoying a friendly game of 3-Dragon Ante in a local tavern when the next night he might be riding a dragon that wants him for dinner. He has no ultimate purpose in life but he enjoys a few definite things: Gold, glory, and excitement. This explains why he risks his life for the most ridiculous things. Being so small, he has had to learn to adapt to a world filled with larger creatures. He is known around Therra for his extremely impressive ability to defeat foes much larger than him using agility and wit. His list of accomplishments are supreme. At the current point in time, Jocco is simply continuing his travels looking for jest, joy, excitement, and coin.
Size
Jocco's size is of great curiosity to the world. He is roughly 1 ft. tall, nearly a third of the size of a normal Gnome. He has told many variations as to why he is this size. He has told some people he has a rare disease, while he has told others he "lost a bet with a wizard". Scholars suggest the second one might be true, as there is no known disease that causes a smaller size but no other deformities, and reducing the size of a person is quite easy through a wizard.
Personality
Jocco is very adventurous in all of his dealings. Be it in the face of a ferocious dragon or the face of a drunken brawler, Jocco is often in over his head. Even in the rare circumstance when he is forced to flee, it is often dramatized by needless acrobatics and other flamboyant maneuvers. He often mocks people in almost every category. From dirty hair to awful combat ability to speech impedements or strange names, Jocco is sure to make fun of it. Even though most people are bigger than him, he continues to mock them. He will even mock dragons when he is attempting to slay them. Jocco always acts with bravado. He will face horrible odds in many endeavors just so he appears more epic. On top of that, he often exaggerates his own adventures as he spins his tales in local bars. Jocco, being a free spirit, enjoys verbal spars. Although rarely defeated, if he is he is never bitter and will compliment the wit of his opponent. Jocco is the opposite of savage or merciless. Although he has dabble in criminal activities including running heists and scams, he is always jestful in his approach to crime as opposed to malice seen in so many other criminals. The reason is because although he might steal for gold, his larger reason is the excitement for himself and material for later stories. Jocco does everything in his power to not embarass himself. If he is ever in a situation where he absolutely must flee, he will do it in the most glorious way and will spin tales of his great escape to hide the need to flee. To sum up Jocco's personality, he is an adventurous spirit filled with grandiose bravado and panache that does what he wants.
Combat
Jocco's combat style is extraordinarily unique. In fact, no one else of any notoriety has a comparable style. This unique style stems from Jocco's petit size, which is about equivalent to a common house cat (around 1 ft. in height). Jocco has crafted a style and has become one of the best combatants against large creatures. He has perfected his style so much, the larger the enemy the easier the enemy. Jocco has used a common phrase to sum up his ability to tackle large foes, stating that "The bigger they are, the harder they fall." Although this is usually not taken in a literal sense, with Jocco it is.
Jocco uses a variety of techniques in combat, but all of them are based around being extremely up close and personal. Jocco usually begins initiating combat in one of two ways. He will either jump on top of the creature and climb on its back, or he will dash under the creature and begin fighting it under foot. He has discovered an almost unrealistic method to trip very large creatures (looking at his size, it is rather remarkable). Once on or under his opponent, he begins dancing around with his single rapier dodging and deflicting attacks while poking at the vital points in the opponents defense. Sometimes he will remain on the defensive, wait for the creature to attempt a futile attack, dash behind the enemy and stab him with a ferocious kidney shot. Jocco's combat style involves extreme amounts of movement, often including acrobatics or other panacheful techniques. While these maneuvers aid his combat, he does them just as much for the grand image of his fighting as for the use of the techniques themselves. Jocco is an extremely accomplished fighter.
Accomplishments
in each of his 11 self-proclaimed titles
- Wanderer: Jocco has traveled to every major city in Therra, including Gry. He keeps a personal map and travel log that he fills in constantly on his travels. His map reveals over 80% of current Therra, excluding certain mountain passes and other extremely harsh climate areas that he has tried to avoid. However, he has been as far north as Niveus and the northern coast and as south as Aphra in the Ahneen desert. He has not been to the badlands, although has passed it on multiple ocean voyages. He has circumnavigated Therra by boat atleast 3 times.
- Fencer: Jocco is a world renowned fencer and rapier combatant. He has won a few regional tournaments but has never had time to compete in larger events. Sometimes these events have coincided with the great bardic council annual meeting, which Jocco is an inaugural member. He fights with one rapier, using his second hand for acrobatics and balance in his combat. He has claimed to have won atleast 4,500 gold straight though duel gambles and other endeavors involving his combat.
- Adventurer: Jocco has compiled a long list of accomplishments through contract adventures and other adventures. He has slain many beasts and has become very wealthy through his adventures. He has been through dungeons, bogs, deserts, ice caps, oceans, and more simply to complete adventures for himself or someone else.
- Bard: Jocco is not a bard by profession, although he does occasionally give performances of weapon drill or his lute. He tells tales and stories all of the time based around his own accomplishments. These stories are always exaggerated, and his knack for story telling and entertaining is rather bardic, and has been invited to the bardic council as an inaugural member.
- Beast Slayer: Jocco has slain many types of beasts and a few famous ones too. He primarily kills monsters for entertainment or for fame and fortune. He has slain some known creatures, most notably Volvox Worldbane, the Black Dragon.
