Gry, the Northen Shadow
History
Gry was original a group of five cities in a kingdom known as Yinland. This was a peaceful group of peoples that existed in a geographically well protected pocket in the north. The human kingdom was ancient and very honor-driven. Several sieges had been attempted, but they were meek compared to the incursion that would follow in the year of 2540. A maug and two humans arrived in the capitol of Yinland. The city crumbled within a year, and the group had siezed total control of the entire region. One of the humans was suddenly replaced by a Balor, scholars aren't sure how this came about. In any case, the Maug is absent as well and the leader is a man by the name of Garius. He is a viciously cruel leader who runs a police state known as Gry. The nieghboring cities have since been taken over, and a massive army of undead is being raised. Much of the original people have been slaved, if they could not prove to Garius officials that they contributed to the economy they were sold into slavery. Most farms have been converted into drug farms, and most cattle have been slaughtered or sold. The undead army is known as the Undarr and every northern nation nervously awaits their next move.
Basic Information
Gry exhibits strange features even to the most experienced of travelers. A constant storm cloud looms just above the reach of the tallest building, The Spire. This enormous structure can be seen for miles even outside the city limits. Its dark material is unknown to most, and looks haphazard as it stretches into the sky. Lightening and rain slam into its flanks, but its unwavering. Occasionally a dragon can be seen circling the tower, and a large perch level can be seen harboring several. The dragons often fly throughout the city, the Red being the most persistent. Both mountains and water surround Gry, and therefore land only touches one face of the city-state. This land is known as the Dark fields, and has difficulty harboring gainful vegetation. Only drugs and poisons bloom in this region, and though its outside the city limits, no law bringers dare get in the way of the production. The city walls are harrowing, at least 12 feet high and spiked. The walls are sheer stone, blackened with some sort of unnatural magic. The walls are inaccessible, because a six-foot metal fence rests several yards away from the wall of stone. Guards in spiked plates holding harbingers clank a well-traveled path between the fence and the walls. Often, the remains of hung people and other creatures can be seen on the walls, not all skeletal. The gate towers above the walls, and is in fact a small tower building. Behind arrow slits, they question would be visitors and turn away most. Inside, a surprisingly well-maintained city that is both clean and unholy punishes those that disturb order greatly. Children are eerily absent; undead can be found patrolling and running shops. They serve as the slave class, though human slaves are also quite common. The gray cobblestone is even and nearly ten feet wide. There are several major roads, all meeting in the Great Spire. Unholy Paladins ride freely, generally doing as they please. Even the most competent of fighters has great reason to feel unease within the limits of Gry.

Guilds
- The Shadowguild
- One of the largest guilds in Therra. Serves as Gry's eyes and ears throughout the lands. All members are excellent combatents, and pride themselves on remaining unseen. They primarily sell drugs and information, and pull off high profile assassinations. Rie, a king of Gry, controls the guild and sets its goals. The shadow guild hall is only accessable in Gry by there headquarters The Shroud. In other cities, they exist in a carpet merchant shop (Knowledge Local DC 25) which leads to the sewer system if available. (Not all cities have storm drains.)
- Slavers
- Though not an official guild per se, the slavers are an alliance of merchants to control the slave trade. The north is fairly resistant to slaving, but there is no shortage of customers and the slavers maintain that demand. They exist primarily to thwart Vyxxis' slavers who have existed far longer and have a better trade. The slavers are rapidly catching up, and seek to make the northern sphere the dominate force in slaving.
