Dark Templar

Background

  • The Dark Templar Guild is an ancient guild that thrived in the dark ages of Therra. Some consider them a terrorist organization, while others consider them martyrs of justice. The Dark Templar Guild's motives are currently unknown, although some reported Dark Templars are hired for assassination attempts. They are considered by some to be a rebel organization against the flaws of humanity and the evils of the world. The reported assassin work done by various Dark Templars have all been focused on corrupt politicians, and other evil beings. Although they are very professional, their roots leave them a deep hatred for anything vain and such leaves them in a position to take certain extreme measures. For instance, the Dark Templars will take personal, unpaid missions and terroristic attacks (ambushes, explosions, etc.) on what they feel is evil but no one is acting upon. Some consider them 'Freedom Fighters', some consider them just a band of assassins and yet others consider them inhumane terrorists. Not much else is know besides a document on their inner organization.

History

  • The Dark Templar Guild was founded 500 years ago by Dimitri Taine and a group of humans who were banished from a small northern city. Not much is known as to why the group formed but it is believed that corrupt officials ruined the lives and families of the charter members of the guild. They had a certain golden age, where they had a practical standing army of 700 men who fought and died in the name of true justice. Although they succeeded in eliminating what they saw as certain evil, the army was destroyed by an orcish horde of 1,000 in open combat. The guild was destroyed, not to be revived for another 100 years. Now, in recent times, the guild has been working extremely secretly however their name is still vastly feared by some and coveted by others.

Organization

  • Since the revival of the guild some 200 years ago, the guild has regone major reorganization. From a document reportedly real, scholars in Maddock's gate discovered certain facts about the shadowy guild.
  • The guild currently keeps only 10 members at a time. They have an extremely high sense of quality, and only keep the best of the best.
  • The guild regularly does assassination / thieving works but only on those they believe should be eliminated.
  • The guild is currently run by Dimitri Taine, it's founder. He has long died but since his everlasting mission will never be complete, he came back as a ghost to fulfill his duty. He resides in a random host, and when the host body dies he achieves another. He is known only by the name 'Ghost'.
  • The Guild does not regularly conduct terroristic maneuvers, however they haven't removed it from their line of work. Every so often a travelling carriage holding a high-profile politician blows up from a blast disk.
  • When a Dark Templar finishes an assignment, he leaves a faintly glowing symbol:
  • The total revenue reported by the fact sheet (from 5 years ago) was at 1,210,134g. This guild takes on only extremely high profile jobs.

Assignment Conduct

  • Dark Templars take on an average of 3 extremely high-profile jobs a year. This means they spend significant amounts of time in both the preparation and the execution of a job. Dark Templars will spend months gathering information, planning their actions, and have everything planned down to the minute. Sometimes Dark Templars even have to penetrate deep into the ranks of certain guilds, so they send a double-agent to join the guild and quickly rise towards the top due to their aptitude.
  • Dark Templars have an average of 2 assassinations a year and 1 massive theft.
  • Not many people have direct contact to the guild, however the guild has thousands of contacts throughout the world. The contacts they get have no clue they are of the Dark Templar.
  • The precision of the Dark Templar is remarkable due to the many months of preparation. Their success rate is 100% (since their reformation).
  • Assassination's range anywhere from poisons to explosives to snipes to backstabs.
  • Dark Templar are so thorough they sometimes even utilize even minor environmental settings such as weather and wind to complete missions.

Mysticism

  • The guild is so secret that many theories have involved a Dark Templar.
  • A Dark Templar is considered so elite that it is believed that one Dark Templar could defend the gates of the city. This is a rumor usually held by ignorant librarians who overhear scholars discussing the sect.
  • It is believed that a Dark Templar was involved in the stealing of the Great Diamond. Some theorists go as far to say that the guild is hiding it so that they can root out the truly greedy people that devote their entire lives to find it.
  • The Dark Templar's are believed to recruit new members to replace old or outdated members from the highest ranks of the Shadow Thieves.
  • When a Dark Templar is considered 'out dated', he is honorably discharged and must kill himself to show is everlasting devotion. Dark Templar usually hang themselves in impossible spots. Some spots include the Tower of Philaen, the Tower of Pelor in Maddock's Gate, and from Tallkeep on the River, in Three-Rivers.
