Life and Society
- Abudir was founded by the great weaponsmith Wadi Abudar in the year 2984 and since then the name Abudir has been synanmous with supeior weapons
- Much of Abudir is populated by Desert Dwavrves and other desert sub-type humoids. This occurs due to the vast amount of wealth that exist on the Western Coast of Fadar.
- The Guild of Weaponsmiths runs the city. Each year the Guild chooses representiatives from both its own ranks and that of the general populace. In this way, all the denisins of the city have a say in the rulership of the city. However, the Guild always maintains a higher number of representative in the Council, allowing its agenda to have priority.
- Abudir's small military protects the city from the monsters of the desert and frequent raids.
- The City itself is build around an Oasis that is fed via tributary from a nearby mountain river. Outside of the city, the brutal heat of the desert sands is a death trap.
- The majority of the resources in Abudir are aquuired from the mines to the east. These mining colonies are protected by the City State and transport the minierals down the river to the city.
- The laws of the city promote free trade and the promotion of business. To that end, the majority of Abudir's written laws protect the rights of artisians. To steal in Abudir is punishable by haevy fines and jail time. If a man steals and sells the product as it is his own, he is punished by death.
- Abudir taxes heavily on imported goods.
- Weapons are not allowed within the walls of Abudir. Admittence to the city is only granted after all weapons are handed over the Guild Guardsmen.
- The Guild Guardsmen are the proffesional army of Abudir. They have alligince only to the guild. They are usually well trained and outfitted with finley crafted weapons supplies to them by the Guild.
- The city council has its own guard force that polices the city streets of Abudir. This force is far smaller by comparison and lacks the training and equipment of the Guild Guardsman. The opposing factions is a point of contention within the city. The Guardsmen act above the council on carrying out the will of the Guild. These often puts them at odds with the Council.
- The Guild guards the walls and protects the city from outside threats while the Council Guard acts as Abudir's police.
- Abudir is small and crowded and its city steets are linned with markets and vendors. The city itself is alwasy filled with a thin smoke and the smell of burning metals. There is a blacksmith on every corner and the city is full of caravan carts and merchants.
Major City Features
- Abudir's buildings are made from sandstone and mud brick, The wealthier building are with carved limestone and decorated with colored stone designes.
- The city is surroned by at 35ft tall, 7ft wide stone wall, It has 2 entrances. One at the mouth of it's Oasis' tributary, and the other is the Main Gate that faces the West.
- The city itself is very hot, so the majority of buildings are open and airy with cavas awnings blocking sunligt.
- The Oasis allows for an abundence of water in the city. Many canals have been fashioned to bring water to all parts of the city. The biggest of these canals leads into the Artisains quarter for use in the smithys.
- Abudir is broken up into 3 districts. The Merchants Quarter which is located in the west near the Main Gate. The largest is Artisians Quarater and it is located in the south. The smallest is the Guild Quarter which houese all the homes of the Guild Officials and the gret Guild House.
The Arts
- Art: The people of the city enjoy colors and geometric designs. Clothing is made of light wieght linenes and light colors.
- Music: The music of Abudir is simple and abundent. It usually involves a lone bard with a lute or pipe. In the taverns, small bands provide an ambiet sound to the establishemnt that will most often accompany dancing
- Dance: Dance is slow and rythmic so as to to exhuagst the dancer.
Important Sites
- Thraravan (Small Town, 3,200): Thraravan is the port of Abudir. It is small and ramshackle with limited Guild presence asite from the port authorities.
- Dun Abur (Small Town, 5,000): Dun Abur is the primary mining town of the city. It is located at the banks of the Kazik river in the mountains to the east of Abudir. It is the central hub of the many small mining operations throughtout the area.
